Consultant Physician - Medical Ophthalmology

About the role

SSMC is recruiting a Consultant Physician in Medical Ophthalmology in Abu Dhabi. The Consultant leads and supervises the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care, diagnoses, manages and treats patients under their care, sets an example of clinical excellence and provides leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the care of patients, including ward rounds, regular reassessment of inpatients and outpatients, and accurate documentation of clinical information
• Diagnose and treat patients according to best-practice standards, accept clinically appropriate referrals and liaise with other specialties and support services
• Prepare patients for procedures, including obtaining informed consent, and communicate clinical information to patients and families with their consent
• Provide on-call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays
• Help lead and implement the performance management system, including peer review and productivity and utilization review
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment of new medical staff and other administrative or clinical duties
• Oversee the clinical work of junior staff, promote quality improvement, audit and reporting of untoward incidents, and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement
• Commit to continued medical education and participate in clinical research and publication

Required profile

• Tier 1: at least 2 years of relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent post-board certification
• Tier 2: at least 8 years of full-time employment as a Consultant or equivalent post-board certification in an internationally accredited institute (fellowship years count)
• For UAE nationals, each year of clinical fellowship after primary specialty board counts as two years of experience, for subspecialty fellowships in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, the USA or HAAD-accredited programmes
• Current national license or equivalent, and certified proof of yearly CME
