Cost Control Engineer (AE)

About the role

The Cost Control Engineer (AE) will support the project team in managing budgets, tracking costs, and ensuring financial compliance throughout the construction lifecycle. Working closely with the Cost Control Manager and Project Manager, the role involves preparing reports, validating material requisitions, and assisting with variation orders.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing, preparing and reviewing the job budget.
• Prepare and issue project cost reports and subcontractor progress reports.
• Investigate and validate sources and causes of cost overruns on site.
• Prepare and check variation orders/claims and supporting documentation.
• Perform fast and accurate quantity take‑offs based on contract measurement methods.
• Conduct site visits to update progress reports and provide data for project reporting.
• Verify Material Requisition Forms (MRF) and Local Purchase Orders (LPO) against budgeted quantities and contract specifications.
• Compare job budget with job estimate, highlighting discrepancies for the Cost Control Manager.
• Assist in cost comparisons, value engineering studies and feasibility analyses as requested by business unit management.

Required profile

• Analytical mindset with ability to identify and validate cost variances.
• Experience in quantity take‑offs and budget monitoring within construction projects.
• Familiarity with preparing cost reports, variation orders and subcontractor payment certificates.
• Attention to detail when verifying material requisitions and purchase orders.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Cost Control and Project Management teams.
