Critical Care Consultant

About the role

The Critical Care Consultant provides senior, evidence‑based medical care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings within a leading Abu Dhabi hospital. The role combines direct patient management with leadership in clinical governance, training of junior staff, and participation in quality‑improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based critical care across the department.
• Conduct comprehensive patient examinations, obtain histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatments, and develop care plans.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff, including specialists, general practitioners and residents.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and attend multi‑disciplinary meetings to ensure holistic patient care.
• Participate in rotational on‑call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Document clinical information accurately and comply with hospital, departmental and Department of Health regulations.
• Engage in clinical audits, peer review and risk‑management activities to drive continuous improvement.
• Communicate clearly with patients and families, obtaining informed consent for procedures.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognised medical school.
• Successful completion of a structured specialty training programme (e.g., Board Certification, Royal College Fellowship) and a postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS or DNB.
• 3–7 years of post‑specialty clinical experience in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Eligibility for, or possession of, a valid Department of Health (DOH) licence for practice in Abu Dhabi.
