Data & AI Specialist – Power BI, AI & Automation

About the role

The American University of Sharjah seeks a Data and AI Specialist to design, develop and maintain business intelligence and AI‑driven solutions that support data‑informed decision‑making across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, data models, DAX measures and Power Query transformations.
• Build and manage the institutional data warehouse, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and integrations with core systems such as Banner and Oracle Fusion.
• Develop LLM‑powered and agentic AI solutions, including context engineering, tool calling, retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings and vector search.
• Implement workflow automation, chatbots, REST APIs and system integrations while applying AI guardrails and responsible‑AI practices.
• Establish data governance, security, ownership, audit trails and PII handling, and produce technical and executive documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS or related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence and AI/automation solution development, preferably in higher‑education or enterprise environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload and communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
