Data Engineer Intern

About the role

Dubizzle, part of the Dubizzle Group, is looking for a Data Engineer intern in Dubai. The intern takes part in projects covering the end-to-end data lifecycle, from raw data integration with primary and third-party systems through advanced data modelling to data visualisation and new data products. The role involves building batch and real-time data processing pipelines in a modern cloud-based data warehouse environment and working with product, tech, trust and safety, finance and other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Raw data integration with primary and third-party systems
• Data warehouse modelling for operational and application data layers
• Development in an Amazon Redshift cluster
• SQL development within an agile team workflow
• ETL design and implementation in Matillion
• Design and implementation of data products that enable data-driven features and business solutions
• Maintain data quality, system stability and security, and follow coding standards in SQL and Python
• Create data dashboards and advanced visualisations in Periscope, focusing on UX, simplicity and usability
• Work with other departments on data products

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or a related quantitative field
• Ability to explain insights and findings to a non-technical audience
• Attention to detail, analytical thinking and entrepreneurial spirit
• Highly driven, self-motivated, curious and committed to continuous learning

Required skills

• Knowledge of relational and dimensional data models
• Terminal operations and Linux workflows
• Good SQL skills across relational data warehousing technologies, especially cloud ones (Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Vertica)
