Design Engineering Manager – Water & Wastewater Projects

About the role

Agile Consultants is looking for a Design Engineering Manager to lead the full engineering design lifecycle of major water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Sharjah, including desalination plants, sewage treatment facilities, zero‑liquid‑discharge systems and pumping stations. The role combines strong technical expertise with leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high‑quality, constructible designs aligned with procurement and execution schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the complete design process from concept through detailed engineering, reviewing and approving P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, layouts, SLDs, BOQs and technical specifications.
• Develop and maintain detailed Work Breakdown Structures, engineering deliverable registers and resource forecasts to ensure zero delays.
• Coordinate closely with procurement and construction teams, providing foundation loads, cable routing, piping layouts and method statements.
• Conduct weekly engineering review meetings, monitor progress dashboards and resolve design gaps or bottlenecks.
• Mentor a team of 10+ engineers across mechanical, electrical, process and drafting disciplines, driving performance and technical development.
• Establish internal engineering standards, manage document control and ensure compliance with international codes such as AWWA, ASTM, ASME, BS, IEC and NFPA.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of experience in water and wastewater design and at least 5 years in a design manager or senior engineering manager role.
• Strong planning, forecasting and detail‑oriented approach with proven ability to meet strict project deadlines.
• Excellent communication, coordination and documentation skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Design of SWRO plants (intake, pretreatment, membrane, ERD, post‑treatment).
• Design of STP technologies (MBBR, SBR, MBR, IFAS, tertiary treatment, sludge handling).
• Zero‑liquid‑discharge (ZLD) system design, evaporators and crystallizers.
• Pumping station hydraulics, pipe sizing, surge analysis and pump selection.
• Electrical load analysis, SLDs, MCC design and cable sizing.
• Instrumentation selection, I/O lists, control philosophy and basic SCADA concepts.
• Compliance with codes and standards: AWWA, ASTM, ASME, BS, IEC, NFPA, DEWA/ADDC/SEWA guidelines.
