Design Lead (Primary) – Substation Electrical

About the role

The Design Lead (Primary) will oversee primary engineering activities for AIS/GIS substation projects across multiple regions, ensuring high‑quality design, timely delivery, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review and assign engineering documents from the remote office, ensuring compliance with local standards and language translation.
• Coordinate with contractors, ACWA, NEGU, and vendors to obtain drawing approvals and resolve construction issues.
• Lead a team of design engineers and draughtspersons to produce accurate primary drawings, equipment layouts, cable routing, earthing, lighting, and lightning protection plans.
• Validate vendor technical specifications, inspect equipment, and support site execution during pre‑bid, commissioning, and warranty phases.
• Provide inter‑departmental checks with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation disciplines.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in primary substation design engineering.
• Strong knowledge of substation equipment, layout engineering, SLD preparation, and related calculations (short‑circuit, sag tension, CCC, busbar, UPS, DG, LT transformer).
• Familiarity with national and international electrical codes and standards.
• Ability to manage engineering activities within budget and schedule.

Required skills

• Proficiency in BIM 3D modelling for substations.
• Software: Dialux, MS Office, and preferably Digsilent, PSCAD, CYMGRD.
• Technical expertise in equipment layout, earthing, cable routing, lighting, and lightning protection design.
