About the role
The Director of Nursing leads the nursing department at Royal Women Hospital Abu Dhabi, shaping a learning culture and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. Reporting to senior hospital leadership, the role combines strategic planning, policy development, and operational oversight. The incumbent will collaborate closely with medical staff, HR, and executive committees to drive continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and lead a learning culture among the nursing team.
- Establish, monitor, and ensure professional standards of care within the Nursing Department.
- Participate as a member of the Hospital Management Executive Committee and contribute to hospital plans, programs, and policies.
- Author and regularly update written nursing policies and procedures (at least every two years).
- Work with HR on performance improvement, utilization review, and risk management initiatives.
- Oversee overall administration of the Nursing Department, ensuring quality of care in partnership with the Medical Director.
- Ensure ongoing education programs and standards for nurses are established and reviewed periodically.
- Communicate hospital policies, regulations, and accreditation standards to the nursing staff.
- Lead investigations of nursing concerns and report findings to senior leadership.
- Trigger and manage Nursing Process Reviews for sentinel or serious incidents.
- Implement and review standing orders and regulations for the Nursing Department.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and represent nursing in hospital committees.
- Develop staffing requirements, participate in recruitment planning, and allocate resources.
- Conduct annual staff appraisals and identify training needs in collaboration with HR.
- Promote hospital core values and foster a climate of professional growth.
- Lead emergency and evacuation procedures for the nursing department.
- Advocate for nursing perspectives to hospital leadership and governing bodies.
- Develop strategic, operational, and fiscal goals in collaboration with medical and allied health leaders.

- Member of the Hospital Management Executive Committee.
