Economic Model Specialist

About the role

The Specialist, Economic Model ensures that fit‑for‑purpose economic and linear‑programming models are developed, maintained and applied to support production optimisation, procurement and commercial decisions for the refinery. The role acts as the focal point for coordinating with site teams, analysing real‑time performance data and delivering margin improvement insights.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, update and validate economic and LP models to reflect current plant constraints, pricing data and operating conditions.
• Perform economic evaluations for feedstock purchases, product sales and other business cases, preparing supporting documentation and presentations for commercial decisions.
• Generate daily, weekly and monthly margin reports, conduct retro‑analysis of plan vs. actual performance and identify sub‑optimal operations.
• Monitor refinery KPIs such as yield patterns, product quality and shutdown impacts, and propose corrective actions.
• Support profit‑improvement programmes, scenario analyses for shutdowns or process constraints, and maintain auditable records of all evaluations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Economics or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience building and interpreting economic models in oil, gas or petrochemical environments.
• Strong knowledge of refinery operations, material balances and market dynamics.
