About the role
You will ensure that safety‑critical aerospace and defense systems move from design through production, integration, testing and operation with the right level of assurance. As the Energetics Safety & Assurance Officer you will own the safety, quality and regulatory assurance framework across missile and unmanned aerial system platforms, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, testing and compliance teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) in line with MIL‑STD‑882E and customer‑specific standards.
- Conduct hazard analyses (PHA, SSHA, O&SHA), FMEA and fault‑tree analysis for weapon and aerospace subsystems.
- Own the hazard tracking process, driving risks through assessment, mitigation, verification and closure.
- Lead investigations of safety incidents, near‑misses and test anomalies, defining corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Oversee compliance with explosives safety requirements, including storage, handling, transportation and insensitive munitions criteria.
- Support live‑fire and flight‑test campaigns, ensuring energetic materials, warheads and propulsion systems meet certification requirements.
- Coordinate export‑control and end‑use compliance documentation with legal and compliance teams.
- Act as the safety authority within Integrated Product Teams, providing input during design and readiness reviews.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s a plus).
- Minimum 8 years of experience in defense systems safety, explosives safety engineering or system safety engineering.
- Strong knowledge of MIL‑STD‑882E and insensitive‑munitions frameworks such as STANAG 4439.
- Hands‑on experience conducting hazard analyses, FMEA, fault‑tree analysis and producing safety case documentation.
- Familiarity with export‑control regimes for munitions and dual‑use technologies.
- Professional proficiency in English.
