Engineering Manager – Ubuntu Package Management

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Ubuntu Package Management team in the United Arab Emirates. You will guide technical direction for software management, system lifecycle, and open‑source collaboration while mentoring experienced engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical vision and roadmap for package management and system lifecycle technologies.
• Lead architecture and design reviews for updates, upgrades, drivers, firmware and related infrastructure.
• Promote engineering excellence in performance, reliability, security and maintainability.
• Mentor and develop a team of senior engineers, fostering ownership and continuous improvement.
• Drive delivery across multiple release cycles, balancing innovation with stability.
• Build cross‑functional partnerships with desktop, server, security, release engineering and OEM teams.

Required profile

• Strong academic background in Computer Science or related STEM field.
• Proven experience in software engineering and building complex technical platforms.
• Demonstrated engineering management experience, including people coaching and performance development.
• Deep knowledge of Linux distribution technologies, package management or software distribution infrastructure.
• Experience collaborating with open‑source communities such as Debian or Ubuntu.
