Equipment Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

The Equipment Mechanic maintains on-track and off-track equipment such as tampers, dynamic stabilizers, ballast distribution systems, ballast regulators, sand removal machines, mobile flash butt welding machines, civil construction machinery and light/heavy road vehicles, following manufacturer's manuals and specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Prioritize safety for themselves, team members and customers, and follow department procedures and safe systems of work.
• Communicate plant fault information proactively to the line manager.
• Plan and carry out preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs on vehicles and equipment, on site and in the workshop/depot, under the instruction of the Equipment Foreman.
• Minimize equipment downtime and delays to production.
• Assess recurring faults and give feedback and recommendations to the foreman.
• Support business activities outside normal hours for breakdown response.

Required profile

• Formal mechanical or electrical technical qualification.
• Relevant industry experience; on-track plant operation experience viewed favorably.
• Full driving license for cars and heavy goods vehicles.
• English as a first language or advanced written and verbal skills.

Required skills

• Diesel engine diagnostic processes.
• 12/24V electric circuit diagnostics.
• Troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC boards and electrical drawings.
• Analytical problem-solving and ability to work in a multicultural team.
