Equipment Maintenance Mechanic – Rail & Construction

About the role

The Equipment Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining a wide range of rail‑related and construction equipment, including tampers, ballast regulators, mobile welding units and heavy road vehicles. Working under the Equipment Foreman, the role ensures all plant operates safely and efficiently in line with manufacturer manuals.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs on on‑track and off‑track machinery.
• Diagnose and resolve diesel engine, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
• Communicate plant fault information promptly to the line manager.
• Minimise equipment downtime and support production schedules.
• Provide feedback on recurring faults and suggest improvements.
• Respond to breakdowns outside normal hours when required.

Required profile

• Formal mechanical or electrical technical qualifications.
• Ability to work safely in a multicultural team environment.
• Willingness to follow department procedures and safety systems.
• English language proficiency at an advanced level.

Required skills

• Diesel engine diagnostic processes.
• 12/24 V electric circuit diagnostics.
• Knowledge of PLC boards and electrical drawings.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting.
• Full driving licence for cars and heavy goods vehicles.
