Financial Counselling Specialist

About the role

The Financial Counselling Specialist works under the Hospital Supervisor of Financial Counseling to advocate for uninsured or under‑insured patients and their families. The role involves informing patients about estimated responsibilities, presenting payment options such as prompt‑pay discounts, payment plans, and UAE assistance programs, and assisting with the submission of financial assistance applications.

Key responsibilities

• Collect payments, review patient eligibility, and manage the submission of financial assistance applications for self‑pay, MVA, THIQA, international and non‑insured patients.
• Gather required documentation, maintain communication with government agencies, and ensure timely processing of claims.
• Run daily registration reports, collaborate with Patient Access and Pre‑Admission Review staff, and update guarantor and subscriber information in the Health Information System.
• Perform Real‑Time Eligibility checks, contact insurers, patients, families, and physicians to verify coverage and benefit limits.
• Document patient communications, financial assistance status, and payment plans; request, collect, and post payments to patient accounts.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue‑cycle systems.
• 0‑2 years of experience in financial counselling or related patient‑access roles.
• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Knowledge of UAE financial assistance programs.
• Excellent time‑management and attention‑to‑detail.
