General Manager – O&M (Wastewater Treatment/Utilities/Environmental Services)

About the role

The General Manager will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and overall management of wastewater treatment plant operations. The role ensures achievement of business, operational, contractual, financial and stakeholder objectives while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, asset performance and service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and leadership to functional and operational managers.
• Establish short‑, medium‑ and long‑term objectives, performance targets and operational plans.
• Develop, implement and execute business and operational strategies.
• Coordinate timely execution of departmental strategies and operational plans.
• Manage resources, contracts and operational activities effectively.
• Lead annual budgeting, financial planning and cost‑control activities.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, legislation and contractual requirements.
• Promote continuous improvement and operational best practices.
• Represent the organisation in high‑level meetings and stakeholder engagements.
• Foster a professional, collaborative and performance‑driven working environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in water, wastewater, utilities or industrial sector.
• At least 8 years of senior management experience overseeing O&M operations.
• Proven track record managing budgets, contracts and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong leadership, negotiation and conflict‑resolution capabilities.
