Genetic Counselor

About the role

The Genetic Counselor will join the Breast Care Center to provide specialised genetic risk assessment, counseling and care coordination for patients and families affected by hereditary cancer syndromes. This role supports a multidisciplinary team by guiding informed decisions on genetic testing and personalised risk‑reduction strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive genetic risk assessments using detailed personal and family histories and pedigree analysis.
• Identify individuals and families at increased risk for hereditary breast, ovarian and other cancer syndromes and determine testing eligibility.
• Provide pre‑test and post‑test counseling, explaining risks, testing options, limitations and implications.
• Coordinate genetic testing in line with evidence‑based guidelines and interpret results, including pathogenic variants and variants of uncertain significance.
• Communicate complex genetic information clearly to patients, families and healthcare providers while ensuring confidentiality and psychological support.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of advances in cancer genetics, molecular diagnostics and precision medicine.
• Deliver education and awareness programs for healthcare professionals and support organisational precision‑medicine initiatives.
• Participate in research activities, data collection and professional development related to genetics and oncology.

Required profile

• Minimum 36 months (3 years) of experience in genetic counseling or related oncology genetics field.
• Strong understanding of hereditary cancer syndromes and genetic testing methodologies.
• Ability to work empathetically with diverse patient populations and maintain confidentiality.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with scientific developments.
