Genetic Counselor

About the role

The Genetic Counselor will deliver comprehensive genetic counseling services to both pediatric and adult patients at King’s College Hospital London, UAE. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role supports patients, families, and clinicians through assessment, interpretation, and communication of genetic and genomic information.

Key responsibilities

• Provide genetic counseling across outpatient and inpatient services, including history taking, risk assessment, and psychosocial support.
• Facilitate informed decision‑making for genetic and genomic investigations and explain test results in a clear, culturally sensitive manner.
• Support and expand the newborn genome screening program, delivering pre‑ and post‑test counseling to parents.
• Coordinate genetic testing pathways, liaise with laboratories, and ensure accurate documentation and consent.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, tumor boards, and genomic review meetings.
• Develop and deliver education and awareness programs for healthcare professionals and the community.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling, Genomics, Medical Genetics or a related field from a recognized institution.
• DHA license (required) and registration with a professional genetic counseling body is desirable.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in genetic counseling or clinical genetics, preferably with exposure to pediatric, adult, prenatal, oncology or rare disease services.
• Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.

Required skills

• Interpretation of genetic test results and variant classification.
• Genomic data analysis and familiarity with current genetic testing technologies.
