About the role

The College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering starting Fall 2027. The role involves steering the department’s academic, research, and service missions to achieve excellence and align with the university’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and develop short‑ and long‑term plans for teaching, research and community engagement.
• Oversee curriculum development, ensuring high‑quality, technology‑enhanced instruction and student holistic development.
• Promote innovative, high‑impact research and multidisciplinary collaborations, optimizing use of research funds and facilities.
• Mentor and inspire faculty, fostering a culture of transparency, integrity and collegiality.
• Represent the department within the university and with external stakeholders, building partnerships and enhancing the department’s regional relevance.

Required profile

• Doctorate in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven academic leadership experience with a strong record of research publications.
• Excellence in teaching and a history of meaningful academic and professional service.
• Clear vision aligned with the college and university strategic plans.
