Head of Secondary – August Start

About the role

We are seeking an outstanding and visionary Head of Secondary to start in August 2027 at GEMS Al Barsha National School in the United Arab Emirates. The role provides strategic, inspirational and operational leadership for the secondary school, driving academic excellence, student wellbeing and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Full operational, financial and educational oversight of the secondary school.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the academy and promote its achievements locally and internationally.
• Maintain the highest standards of student achievement, behaviour and pastoral care.
• Implement robust quality‑assurance procedures and data‑informed self‑evaluation for continuous improvement.
• Ensure high‑quality professional learning for staff that impacts student outcomes.
• Foster a high‑challenge, high‑support culture where staff and students thrive.

Required profile

• Relevant degree (BEd, BA) with PGCE/PGDE or equivalent and a proven record of outstanding teaching.
• Significant experience in a senior leadership role within a secondary school.
• Demonstrated track record of sustained school improvement and raising standards.
• In‑depth knowledge of the National Curriculum for England and its implementation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage a diverse school community.
• Commitment to safeguarding, including successful completion of a UK‑enhanced DBS or equivalent.
