Head of Social Studies – Curriculum Leader

About the role

Universal American School is seeking an outstanding Head of Social Studies to join the team in January 2027. The role includes responsibility as Curriculum Leader for the Social Studies Department, offering an experienced educator the chance to shape the development of Social Studies at UAS.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and inspire colleagues to deliver engaging, challenging, and high‑quality learning experiences for all students.
• Drive curriculum development, assessment practices, and departmental improvement.
• Foster collaboration and professional growth within the Social Studies team.
• Promote consistently high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a closely related field and a recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed., M.Ed., PGCE/PGDE, or equivalent).
• Experience leading a Social Studies Department or serving as 2IC with a desire to lead in an outstanding school.
• Excellent subject knowledge and a strong understanding of inquiry‑based, concept‑driven, standards‑based teaching.
• Proven ability to deliver engaging, student‑centred learning experiences and strong communication skills.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to curriculum development and wider school initiatives.
• Experience in an international or culturally diverse school environment (preferred).
