Head of Trade Finance

About the role

The Head of Trade Finance will lead Monfi's trade finance function, overseeing the design, implementation, and growth of trade finance products and services aligned with the bank's global strategy. This full‑time, on‑site role based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, includes managing trade finance operations, risk, and compliance for instruments such as letters of credit, guarantees, and structured trade facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and scale trade finance products and services across the digital platform.
• Manage day‑to‑day trade finance operations, risk assessment and regulatory compliance for letters of credit, guarantees and structured facilities.
• Collaborate with corporate and SME clients to understand international trade needs, structure tailored solutions and ensure timely execution.
• Work closely with product, technology, risk and legal teams to integrate trade finance offerings and improve client experience.
• Build, mentor and lead a high‑performing trade finance team, establish policies and procedures, and drive business development in key commodity and trade corridors.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in trade finance and finance, with proven ability to design and manage complex trade finance products and portfolios.
• In‑depth knowledge of international trade regulations and experience supporting cross‑border transactions.
• Hands‑on experience with letters of credit, collections, guarantees and standby LCs, including documentation and risk assessment.
• Leadership experience in a bank or financial institution, preferably in trade finance or corporate banking, with P&L responsibility and team management.
