Head Of Trading Risk Engine

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing crypto infrastructure firm, is launching a funded trading platform for crypto perpetuals. They need a hands‑on leader to design, build and operate the trading risk engine that will protect the platform while enabling aggressive product development.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the firm’s trading book, aggregate exposure and overall risk appetite.
• Design funded‑account rules covering drawdown, leverage, concentration and consistency parameters.
• Oversee payout reviews, liability forecasting and reserve requirements.
• Classify traders (profitable, toxic, fraudulent, correlated) and set appropriate limits.
• Decide which activity stays simulated, is internalised, matched internally or hedged externally.
• Develop and manage external hedging strategies and relationships with venues, liquidity providers and market makers.
• Implement real‑time monitoring, alerts, incident response and daily risk reporting.
• Lead recruitment and build the future risk and dealing team.
• Construct A‑book, B‑book and hybrid routing logic for funded accounts and determine hedging timing.
• Measure shadow P&L to compare apparent profitability against real fees, spreads and execution costs.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading risk‑engine development for trading or crypto platforms.
• Strong quantitative background with ability to translate risk concepts into practical product controls.
• Hands‑on mindset, comfortable making live risk decisions and working directly with data.
• Ability to collaborate closely with product and engineering teams.
• Strategic thinking combined with a bias toward enabling product growth rather than imposing blanket bans.
