Health, Safety and Environment Manager

About the role

Mott MacDonald, a global engineering, management and development consultancy, is hiring a Health, Safety and Environment (HSEQ) Manager in Abu Dhabi. The HSEQ Manager drives a collaborative and positive HSEQ culture across the project, establishes and develops procedures and policies, and builds on them with a focus on continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor HSEQ procedures and policies, and coordinate with the group on HSE minimum requirements and procedures
• Carry out incident investigations, report outcomes and run a coaching and mentoring programme to train staff on HSEQ initiatives
• Prepare and run an audit programme covering contracts, internal and external audits, and close out non-conformances
• Deliver safety practices aimed at zero injury, zero risk and zero harm, and give toolbox talks and other safety training
• Perform HSE risk assessments and environmental impact analyses for construction sites and offices, and schedule regular HSE audits
• Produce and deliver the project HSEQ training and orientation, and monitor environmental controls such as waste minimisation and sustainability initiatives
• Implement quality control procedures, audit the QC system, maintain inspection records and track non-compliant items, while keeping quality assurance across contractors
• Keep the project team and client informed about local legislative requirements and changes

Required profile

• Degree or recognised international OSH diploma (e.g. NEBOSH) in engineering, environmental or safety discipline
• Relevant health and safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP etc.) from a recognised institution
• Experience in a similar role, with both office and site experience essential
• Leadership and mentoring experience
• Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds and to manage multiple teams
• Experience in the Middle East is an advantage

Required skills

• Familiarity with SHEQ policies and standards, and SHEQ practices such as P&ID, HAZOP and SIL
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, OHSAS 45001 and ISO 14000 (familiar but not essential)
• Ability to write reports and make presentations
