Health Safety Environment Officer

About the role

The Health Safety Environment (HSE) Officer will coordinate the organisation's health, safety and environmental systems, identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate controls. The role supports management and employees by providing expert advice on accident prevention and occupational health.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect sites regularly, ensuring compliance with the HSE Manual, client standards and safe work practices.
• Monitor workforce HSE performance, conduct planned and random inspections, and report unsafe conditions.
• Maintain HSE standards, issue work permits, decide required PPE, prepare Job Safety Analyses and analyse behavioural safety data.
• Motivate staff to report hazards, unsafe acts, near‑misses and develop corrective actions.
• Promote safety campaigns, deliver toolbox talks and maintain related records.
• Ensure incident reporting, investigation and documentation according to company procedures.
• Review legal and contractual HSE obligations, report non‑compliance and follow up on corrective actions.
• Coordinate procurement of safety equipment, first‑aid and fire‑fighting appliances.
• Lead internal HSE meetings, stop work when imminent danger exists, and conduct emergency drills and inductions.
• Identify training needs, deliver safety training and update risk assessments for all activities.

Required profile

• Minimum five years (60 months) of experience in health, safety and environment roles.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent Level 3 qualification.
• Proven ability to conduct inspections, audits and risk assessments.
• Strong knowledge of HSE legislation and client‑specific standards.
• Excellent communication skills to influence and train diverse teams.
