HPC Systems Engineer (Postdoc and Research Support)

About the role

A High-Performance Computing (HPC) Infrastructure and Operations team is looking for an HPC Systems Engineer to support the deployment, administration, maintenance and optimisation of large-scale GPU/CPU clusters used for AI, machine learning and scientific research. The role suits early-career engineers with strong Linux fundamentals and practical troubleshooting skills, and is based in Abu Dhabi.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain GPU/CPU clusters, including NVIDIA/AMD GPU servers, CPU nodes and enterprise storage, and perform diagnostics, firmware upgrades and component replacement
• Administer Linux-based HPC clusters, Slurm workload management, and distributed storage such as Lustre or IBM Storage Scale (GPFS)
• Support researchers running AI/ML training and inference workloads, diagnosing Slurm, CUDA, NCCL, MPI, PyTorch and GPU memory issues
• Build and maintain Apptainer (Singularity) container environments and Kubernetes-based platforms for AI/ML services, including GPU scheduling and container registries
• Operate and troubleshoot data center network switches (Ethernet and InfiniBand), including leaf-spine fabrics and RoCE/RDMA
• Develop automation scripts in Python or Bash, maintain documentation and take part in incident response and root-cause analysis

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; a Master's degree or equivalent practical experience is preferred
• 3-5 years of practical experience with Linux server administration, hardware diagnostics or infrastructure operations
• Strong Linux knowledge, hardware architecture understanding, and familiarity with Python and Bash
• Hands-on experience with container technologies and data center network switches
• Preferred: GPU/AI infrastructure, Kubernetes, InfiniBand and RDMA/RoCE experience
