IP Medical Coder

About the role

Royal Khalifa City Hospital Abu Dhabi is hiring an IP Medical Coder. The coder ensures that medical documents are coded correctly according to regulatory guidelines, checks and sequences the most accurate ICD-9/ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures, and trains and guides other coders and medical records technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Check and sequence the most accurate ICD-9/ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and DRG codes for diagnoses and procedures, and ensure physicians' final diagnoses and operative procedures are valid and complete.
• Extract information from health records to identify secondary complications and comorbidities, and evaluate records for consistency and adequacy.
• Compute and assign the correct DRG codes for all inpatient cases and E&M levels using the correct CPT codes.
• Ensure coding follows HAAD guidelines and regulations, and give doctors feedback on coding errors or oversights.
• Train and guide other coders and medical records technicians, updating them on new coding rules and regulations.
• Stay up to date with the latest coding versions and HAAD directives, and perform other duties assigned by the HOD.
• Comply with OSH and infection control policies, including reporting hazards, incidents and near misses, waste management procedures, and attending OSH and infection control training and drills.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Allied Health Sciences or a related field.
• At least two years of coding experience.
• Valid CCA certification from AHIMA or CPC certification from AAPC.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Able to coordinate multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Computer literacy and MS Office.
• Coding knowledge: ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, DRG and E&M coding.
