Java Technical Lead

About the role

IC Markets Global is seeking a Technical Team Lead – Java to drive backend development for its high‑performance trading platform. The role combines hands‑on coding with full ownership of a Java engineering team, ensuring delivery of low‑latency, scalable services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and manage a team of Java backend developers, handling task breakdown, progress monitoring and blocker removal.
• Define and review technical architecture for microservices, REST APIs, event‑driven and trading‑related services, ensuring scalability, security and maintainability.
• Design, develop and optimise backend components using Java 17+, JVM tuning, GC optimisation and low‑latency techniques.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, Mobile and Trading teams to deliver high‑quality releases and maintain operational reliability.

Required profile

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience with strong Java development expertise.
• 2+ years of proven technical leadership of a team of 7+ engineers.
• Experience in fintech, forex or high‑performance trading environments, handling microservices, APIs and low‑latency systems.

Required skills

• Java (Java 17+), Kotlin and mixed Java/Kotlin environments.
• Microservices architecture, REST APIs, event‑driven architecture, CQRS and domain‑driven design.
• Vaadin framework for internal UI development.
• Low‑latency system design, JVM tuning, garbage‑collection optimisation.
• Cloud‑based delivery, CI/CD pipelines and collaboration with DevOps.
