Junior Sous Chef

About the role

The Junior Sous Chef is an entry-level management position in the kitchen of the Marriott Executive Apartments Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The role focuses on achieving daily kitchen objectives, assisting in leading staff while taking part in all areas of the kitchen, including food production, purchasing and kitchen sanitation. It contributes to guest and employee satisfaction while keeping the operating budget.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain food handling and sanitation standards and keep work areas clean and sanitary
• Oversee production and preparation of culinary items and check the quality of raw and cooked food
• Supervise cooks and workers, lead shifts and personally prepare food to specification
• Coordinate service and timing of events and meals with the Restaurant and Banquet departments
• Prepare and cook foods regularly and for special guests or functions, and help design food presentation and displays
• Supervise daily shift operations, staffing levels and ensure staff have supplies, equipment and uniforms
• Take part in performance appraisals, handle employee questions and conduct training when appropriate
• Support new menus, concepts and promotions for the restaurant and banquets
• Purchase supplies and manage food and supply inventories within budget, report equipment malfunctions and attend department meetings
• Handle guest problems and complaints, setting a positive example for guest relations

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or a 2-year degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management or a related major
• 4 years of experience in culinary, food and beverage or a related field, or 2 years with a degree
