Kitchen/Laundry Technician

About the role

Fairmont Ajman, a 5-star beachfront hotel in Ajman, is looking for a Kitchen/Laundry Technician. The role covers the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of kitchen and laundry equipment, ensuring it runs safely, efficiently and reliably while keeping operational downtime low and meeting hotel standards, safety requirements and manufacturer specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of kitchen and laundry equipment, including ovens, combi ovens, cooking ranges, fryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, washing machines, dryers and ironing equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating and refrigeration-related equipment, replacing defective components such as switches, thermostats, heating elements, motors, belts, bearings and valves.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdowns from Kitchen, Stewarding, Housekeeping and Laundry, and test repaired equipment before returning it to the department.
• Follow the preventive maintenance schedule, inspect equipment regularly, keep accurate records of maintenance and faults, and recommend replacement or major repair.
• Work in line with hotel safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and electrical safety, and report hazards such as gas or water leaks; use PPE and work safely at heights where required.
• Coordinate with kitchen, stewarding, housekeeping and laundry colleagues to minimise disruption, support Engineering colleagues and assist external contractors during servicing.
• Provide technical input during installation and commissioning of new equipment, monitor performance to reduce energy, water and maintenance costs, and report recurring issues to the Engineering Supervisor.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or vocational qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Refrigeration, HVAC or a related field.
• Previous experience in hotel engineering, commercial kitchen or laundry equipment, or a similar environment.
• Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems; experience troubleshooting commercial kitchen and laundry equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of refrigeration, plumbing, heating systems and basic controls is an advantage.
• Ability to read basic electrical diagrams and equipment manuals.
• Good problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in a multicultural team, and flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift tools and equipment, and work in hot, humid, noisy back-of-house environments.
