Lab Assistant - Applied Media

About the role

The Applied Media Lab Assistant supports faculty and students in the Applied Media program by maintaining laboratories, workshops, and AV facilities. This hands‑on position works closely with instructors to ensure equipment is functional and safe for teaching and project work.

Key responsibilities

• Assist faculty during workshop and laboratory sessions, demonstrating equipment and tools.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot broadcasting, audio‑visual and post‑production systems.
• Manage inventory of consumables, equipment, and maintain preventive‑maintenance schedules and logs.
• Provide AV support for college events and oversee the AV control room.
• Enforce laboratory health, safety and housekeeping protocols.
• Track borrowed equipment, handle distribution of supplies, and support student project design and execution.

Required profile

• Minimum Higher Diploma with 3 years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 2 years relevant experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Experience in broadcasting, media production or an education facility focused on production.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Knowledge of broadcasting networks and AV system installation.
• Hands‑on experience troubleshooting audio‑visual and post‑production equipment.
• Proficiency with workshop tools, technical instruments and media‑production software.
• Understanding of laboratory health and safety protocols.
• High computer literacy and ability to integrate technology in a workplace setting.
