Laboratory Assistant - Health Sciences

About the role

The Health Sciences Laboratory Assistant supports faculty and students across Health Sciences programmes by maintaining laboratories, setting up experiments, and ensuring equipment is functional and safe. This hands‑on position works closely with academic staff in both traditional labs and simulation labs.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment, keep manuals and maintenance logs, and perform routine servicing.
• Set up laboratories for experiments and simulation labs, manage consumable inventories, and track borrowed tools and equipment.
• Demonstrate proper use of laboratory resources, enforce safety and housekeeping procedures, and support faculty and students during practical sessions.
• Coordinate with health sciences programmes, assist in purchasing equipment, and travel to other HCT campuses for meetings and workshops.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least three years of laboratory setup and maintenance experience.
• Industrial experience in a health‑science laboratory is preferred; membership in a professional association and first‑aid certification are desirable.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff in a fast‑paced academic environment.

• High computer literacy and ability to integrate technology into laboratory workflows.
