About the role
Wood is seeking an experienced PMC Lead Ground Improvement Engineer for the ADNOC project in Abu Dhabi. The role oversees, reviews, and manages all ground improvement activities performed by contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, quality, safety, and schedule.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical review and approval of ground improvement methodologies submitted by EPC/Construction contractors.
- Monitor contractor performance during execution, verify adherence to approved construction methods, and review progress reports.
- Manage quality assurance and control, including laboratory and field testing verification, calibration of equipment, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate project schedule, identify risks, and support change management and technical evaluations.
- Ensure all ground improvement works meet HSE requirements, participate in safety audits and promote safe execution practices.
- Prepare technical reports, assess contractor submissions, maintain inspection records, and issue recommendations to the PMC Project Manager.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's preferred); professional engineering certification desirable.
- 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, with at least 8 years managing ground improvement on large‑scale infrastructure or oil & gas projects.
- Previous experience working for a PMC, Engineer, or Owner's Engineer is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise with multiple ground improvement techniques across major projects.
Required skills
- Proficiency in ground improvement methods such as Vibro Compaction, Dynamic Compaction, Deep Soil Mixing, Jet Grouting, Prefabricated Vertical Drains, Vacuum Consolidation, Compaction Grouting, Controlled Modulus Columns, Rigid Inclusions, and soil stabilization with cement/lime.
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and international standards (Eurocode 7, ASTM, BS, AASHTO, FHWA).
- Experience with geotechnical software: PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Settle3, gINT, AutoCAD.
