Lead Quantity Surveyor - Post Contract Commercial Lead

About the role

This role is a Post Contract Commercial Lead for larger-value projects, managing the commercial side of the project and leading a junior commercial team. It covers tender assessment, variation and claims handling, cost reporting, payment certification and final accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Assess tender BOQs against IFC information and update the BOQ, and handle float enquiries to obtain final supply chain offers
• Prepare sub-contract and purchase orders, including drawings, programme and BOQs
• Detect variations and changes to the contract with the project team, and negotiate and conclude variations and claims with subcontractors and clients
• Prepare monthly project valuations and submit them on time to the employer
• Procure insurances and bonds, and review and issue monthly payment certificates to subcontractors
• Handle general contract administration, including drafting notices of delay, variations and claims, and preparing extension-of-time claims with contemporary records
• Undertake monthly cost reporting with the project manager, including budget forecasts
• Prepare and conclude final accounts and handle commercial matters during the defects liability period, including bond returns and retention releases
• Help estimate potential projects when the estimation department is at full capacity
• Guide and develop the junior commercial team

Required profile

• Graduate in a construction discipline or equivalent
• 7 to 10 years of relevant experience, with at least 7 years in post contract quantity surveying
• Knowledge of the local market is an advantage
