Licensed Expedition Staff (USCG Captain)

About the role

Lindblad Expeditions is seeking a US Coast Guard‑licensed captain to operate inflatable boats and support expedition activities on its cruise ships. The role involves shuttling guests, staff and crew to shore, assisting with under‑sea programs and providing on‑board support during multi‑week voyages.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate inflatable boats with outboard engines for up to 5 hours in varied weather and water conditions.
• Assist under‑sea programs and provide small‑boat support for diving, snorkeling and other marine activities.
• Prepare, launch and recover inflatable craft using ship cranes, following officer instructions.
• Conduct landing‑site risk assessments, document findings and develop recurring location notes.
• Support a range of expedition activities such as hiking, kayaking, paddle‑boarding, snorkeling, cross‑country ski and cultural tours.
• Maintain, clean and inventory all field‑staff equipment, track damaged items and coordinate replacements.

Required profile

• Valid United States Coast Guard captain’s license.
• Experience navigating cold and warm waters, including ice‑filled environments.
• Ability to work 6‑8 weeks at a time with flexible daily hours based on itinerary.
• Strong interpersonal skills for dining with guests and living in close quarters with a multinational crew.
