Mechanical Engineer (UAE National) – Sharjah

About the role

Wood is seeking UAE National Mechanical Engineers to join its Engineering & Projects team in Sharjah. The position supports the company’s Emiratization goals and is open to fresh graduates as well as professionals with up to 10 years of experience in the oil & gas sector.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the design, sizing and selection of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and storage tanks.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, engineering calculations and design reports.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning and start‑up activities while ensuring compliance with HSE and quality standards.
• Participate in multidisciplinary coordination, site surveys, HAZOP, design and risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
• For fresh graduates: internship or project experience in oil & gas, energy, manufacturing, utilities or EPC environments.
• For experienced candidates (3‑10 years): proven experience in FEED, detailed design, brownfield/greenfield or EPC projects within oil & gas, petrochemical, LNG, refinery or power sectors.

Required skills

• Mechanical design and equipment sizing.
• Preparation of technical specifications, datasheets and engineering calculations.
• Knowledge of pumps, compressors, turbines, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and storage tanks.
• Experience with HAZOP, risk assessment, root‑cause analysis and reliability improvement.
• Familiarity with FEED, detailed design, brownfield/greenfield and EPC project execution.
