Mechanical Engineer - UAV Systems

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group focused on defence and emerging technologies, is hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Abu Dhabi to provide design solutions for its complex UAV projects. The engineer works in research and development and collaborates with electronics, software, manufacturing and flight test teams.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in R&D for UAV/UAS and UGV systems.
• Design, develop and optimise mechanical structures, airframes and assemblies for unmanned platforms.
• Produce 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and bills of materials for prototypes and production.
• Design lightweight, manufacturable and structurally efficient components.
• Support prototype manufacturing with CNC machining, composites, sheet metal and additive manufacturing.
• Integrate propulsion systems, payloads, landing gear, avionics mounting and structural parts.
• Support prototype assembly, ground and flight testing, troubleshooting and validation.
• Carry out engineering investigations, root cause analysis and design improvements.
• Maintain engineering documentation such as drawings, design reports, assembly instructions, ECRs and test reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, product development and system integration for UAV/UAS, UGV or aerospace systems.
• Experience in UAV structural design, airframe development, prototype assembly and mechanical integration.
• Experience with composite structures, CNC machining, additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
• Experience supporting prototype manufacturing, mechanical testing, flight testing and design validation.
• Experience in multidisciplinary R&D environments and engineering change implementation.
• English proficiency required.

Required skills

• 3D CAD design with SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, CREO or similar.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM), GD&T, tolerance analysis and engineering drawing preparation.
