Mechanical Technical Director Mission Critical Data Centres

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technical Director to lead our Global Data Centre Design Team (Mission Critical) in Abu Dhabi. The role provides senior technical leadership for hyperscale, AI and mission‑critical data centre projects, shaping mechanical engineering strategy worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and governance across multiple mission‑critical data centre projects globally.
• Define and oversee mechanical engineering strategies for hyperscale, colocation, enterprise and AI‑driven data centre developments.
• Lead the development and review of cooling architectures, including chilled water systems, liquid cooling, direct‑to‑chip cooling, CDUs and heat‑rejection solutions.
• Drive technical excellence through peer reviews, design assurance processes and the creation of engineering standards and best practices.
• Act as senior technical authority, supporting project teams throughout all phases and managing technical risks, budgets and quality objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering; Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including leadership of mission‑critical and data‑centre projects.
• Proven track record delivering hyperscale, colocation, enterprise and AI‑focused data centre facilities.
• Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting business development and client management.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering design for data‑centre cooling systems.
• Chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, liquid cooling technologies, CDUs, cooling towers and dry coolers.
• Resilience design (N+1, 2N, concurrent maintainability) and mechanical‑electrical integration.
• Controls, BMS systems, commissioning and integrated systems testing.
• CFD modelling, thermal analysis, energy modelling, digital engineering and BIM delivery.
• Familiarity with Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) certification (highly desirable).
