Metallurgist – FAMTL (Reliability & Testing)

About the role

The Metallurgist for the FAMTL team will act as the primary metallurgical engineering expert, supervising lab analysts and supporting the UAE Armed Forces’ land platforms, heavy vehicles and ground‑support equipment. The role focuses on reliability, maintainability and testing of materials and components.

Key responsibilities

• Directly supervise all assigned Lab Analysts within the FAMTL.
• Review and improve reliability prediction methods and test procedures.
• Monitor emerging technologies in reliability, maintainability and testing.
• Analyse test data to identify design, material or process failures.
• Evaluate material design, manufacturing processes and usage to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical assistance on chemical composition, forging and heat‑treatment issues.
• Conduct mechanical testing and assess metallurgical aspects of vehicle and weapons‑system malfunctions.
• Advise design, modelling and simulation teams on reliability‑impacting changes.
• Review weapon‑system specifications and suggest reliability and test requirements for contracts.
• Support contracting officials with interpretation of material specifications and drawings.
• Consult with quality‑assurance personnel on defect criticality and acceptance standards.
• Develop and enforce acceptance standards to prevent substandard material use.
• Oversee projects developing non‑destructive testing methods and ensure their integration.
• Review technical data packages and specify testing requirements for first‑article, acceptance and special tests.
• Investigate failure reports, analyse quality problems and propose corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising laboratory personnel.
• Strong background in metallurgical engineering, material failure analysis and reliability engineering.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and contracts.
• Excellent analytical skills for data‑driven problem solving.
