Midwife Educator & Lactation Consultant

About the role

Offers breastfeeding assistance, education and advice while working closely with the Nurse Manager to develop and maintain a baby‑friendly environment in line with international standards and hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Offer breastfeeding assistance, education and advice to mothers and families.
• Liaise with the Nurse Manager and develop a safe, baby‑friendly environment following DOHMS, WHO Baby Friendly Initiative and hospital policies.
• Design and deliver educational sessions to standardise and promote breastfeeding and rooming‑in.
• Assess patients’ and staff’s education needs and provide training on baby‑friendly initiatives.
• Create and implement individualized feeding plans, evaluating risk factors, medication side effects and contraindications.
• Collaborate with paediatricians, obstetricians, nursery staff and NICU to optimise newborn care, including feeding, breast care and bonding.
• Participate in staff meetings, unit committees and multidisciplinary rounds.
• Oversee maintenance and competency training for breastfeeding equipment.
• Provide nursing education and ensure accurate documentation according to standards.
• Train obstetrics, labour, nursery and NICU nurses in breastfeeding practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or Nursing with Midwifery certification (or equivalent qualifications as listed).
• Valid professional license/registration and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified Lactation Consultant.
• Minimum three years recent post‑graduate experience as a Midwife in a Maternal Newborn Unit, including at least two years of clinical teaching.
