Neonatology Consultant

About the role

The Neonatology Consultant provides senior, evidence‑based medical care for newborns in both inpatient and outpatient settings at a SEHA Hospital in Abu Dhabi. The role combines clinical leadership, supervision of junior staff, and active participation in quality improvement and on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based neonatal care, including diagnosis, treatment and management.
• Conduct patient examinations, obtain histories, order and interpret investigations, prescribe therapies and develop treatment plans.
• Supervise and train junior medical staff, including specialists, GPs and residents.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and attend multi‑disciplinary meetings.
• Participate in rotational on‑call coverage for evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Document clinical information accurately and ensure compliance with hospital, departmental and DOH regulations.
• Engage in clinical audits, peer review and risk management to drive continuous improvement.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, obtaining informed consent for procedures.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
• Successful completion of a structured specialty training program (Board Certification, Fellowship of a Royal College or equivalent).
• Postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS or DNB is preferred.
• 3–7 years of post‑specialty clinical experience in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Valid DOH licensing or eligibility to practice in the UAE.
