OP Medical Coder

About the role

Royal Khalifa City Hospital Abu Dhabi is hiring an OP Medical Coder. The coder ensures that medical documents are coded correctly in line with regulatory coding guidelines and regulations, and supports the accuracy of diagnoses and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Check and sequence the most accurate ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, DRG and other codes for diagnoses and procedures, and confirm that physicians' final diagnoses and operative procedures are valid and complete.
• Abstract information from health records to identify secondary complications and co-morbidities, and evaluate records for consistency and adequacy so that the final diagnosis reflects the care given.
• Compute and assign the correct DRG codes for all inpatient cases.
• Analyse doctors' documentation to ensure the right Evaluation and Management (E&M) levels are assigned with the correct CPT codes.
• Ensure coding follows HAAD guidelines and regulations, and update yourself on the latest coding versions and HAAD directives.
• Train and guide other coders and Medical Records Technicians, and give doctors feedback on coding errors or oversights.
• Comply with OSH and infection control policies, attend relevant training and drills, use personal protective equipment, and follow waste management procedures.
• Report OSH hazards, incidents and near misses, help prepare risk assessments and incident reports, and perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Allied Health Sciences or a related field.
• At least two years of coding experience.
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from AHIMA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Able to work constructively with others, coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Required skills
