Pediatric Respiratory Therapist

About the role

The Pediatric Respiratory Therapist provides direct patient care, performing respiratory therapy and basic cardiopulmonary diagnostic tests for neonatal, pediatric and adult patients. The role follows the clinical policies of American Hospital Dubai and adheres to international accreditation standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform safe, quality respiratory care services and basic cardiopulmonary diagnostic tests, including Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) and Polysomnography (PSG) studies.
• Respond to emergencies and deliver Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as required.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments before, during and after each procedure, documenting all findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Operate, calibrate and troubleshoot respiratory and monitoring equipment such as ventilators, pulse oximeters, blood gas analyzers and sleep screening systems.
• Maintain infection control standards by disinfecting equipment, disposing of single‑use supplies, and performing daily safety and inventory checks.

Required skills

• Operation of respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators (invasive and non‑invasive), suction machines and oxygen delivery systems.
• Proficiency with Pulmonary Function Testing machines, bedside spirometers, pulse oximeters, blood gas analyzers and cardiac monitoring devices.
• Experience in aerosol therapy, nebulizer use, metered‑dose inhaler administration, and bronchial hygiene techniques.
• Ability to perform chest physiotherapy, postural drainage, incentive spirometry and lung volume measurements (PEF, FVC).
• Competence in blood gas sampling (arterial, venous, capillary) and interpretation, including electrolyte, lactate and bilirubin analysis.
