Postdoctoral Fellowship in Autonomous Driving Systems

About the role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship focused on autonomous driving systems and artificial intelligence, within a funded project on lane-changing for autonomous vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and testing of hybrid trajectory-prediction algorithms and high-level decision-making models.
• Design and implement AI/ML/RL solutions for real-time driving behavior prediction and maneuver planning.
• Integrate and validate models in simulation environments such as CARLA and SUMO, and on real autonomous platforms.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at top-tier conferences.
• Supervise and collaborate with graduate research assistants and students.

Required profile

• PhD awarded in 2020 or later in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, AI, or a related field.
• Strong publication record in autonomous vehicles, trajectory prediction, decision-making, reinforcement learning, or estimation theory.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MATLAB, C++, and Python.
• Experience with ROS2, Docker, Git, and Linux development environments.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as CARLA and SUMO.
