Principal Advisor - HSSE

About the role

Petrofac is seeking a Principal Advisor – HSSE to lead health, safety, security and environmental activities for its projects in Abu Dhabi. The role will ensure compliance with legislation, company policies and industry standards while promoting a strong safety culture across the site.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day HSE activities within assigned project areas.
• Develop, maintain and update HSE Management System documentation.
• Lead HSE awareness programmes and safety campaigns.
• Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments and implement ALARP control measures.
• Review effectiveness of hazard controls and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide inputs to the action tracking system and ensure timely closure of HSE actions.
• Communicate HSE requirements to all personnel and verify compliance through meetings, inspections, monitoring and audits.
• Support incident and near‑miss investigations and contribute to lessons‑learned processes.
• Participate fully in compliance audits, inspections and performance meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years (96 months) of HSE experience in the energy sector.
• Relevant certifications such as NEBOSH IGC or equivalent and ISO 45001/14001 internal auditor qualification.
• Proven ability to develop and implement HSE policies, procedures and documentation.
• Strong knowledge of HSE legislative requirements and industry best practices.
