Principal Engineer – HSE Design

About the role

Petrofac is looking for a Principal Engineer – HSE Design to lead a team of engineers and designers in delivering safety engineering for large‑scale FEED and EPC projects within the oil and gas sector. The role involves ensuring HSE integrity across multiple project groups and providing technical guidance throughout the design phase.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with project, customer and vendor representatives to resolve technical HSE issues.
• Utilise and maintain HSE software tools and interpret their outputs.
• Implement, review and monitor the design HSE components of the Project HSSE Plan.
• Provide technical guidance to the design safety team on proposals and projects.
• Facilitate HAZID workshops and assist teams in identifying potential risks.
• Lead peer‑review groups to ensure technical integrity of designs and proposals.
• Identify and introduce new industry technologies and best practices.
• Develop and maintain a productive, cohesive engineering team.
• Support the Discipline Manager in creating design safety guides, evaluating performance, and recruiting HSE engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Minimum 15–17 years of experience in risk, safety, or loss‑prevention engineering within FEED/EPC environments.
• Proven experience in the oil and gas industry.
