Principal Engineer - Mechanical Design

About the role

Lead the mechanical design, structural‑integrity assessment, simulation and physical validation of missiles, guided munitions and unmanned aerial vehicles. You will ensure that all structures and sub‑components meet defined load and design requirements and provide sign‑off before launch or flight.

Key responsibilities

• Approve simulation methods, validation strategies, test setups, instrumentation and safety protocols; oversee shock, pyro‑shock, vibration and high‑g testing.
• Lead failure investigations, corrective actions and risk identification; support preliminary and critical design reviews.
• Mentor engineers, manage a team of four to six, and coordinate interdisciplinary work across propulsion, aerodynamics, guidance, control and warhead teams.
• Manage analysis and test budgets, software licences and laboratory costs; improve workflow efficiency for pre‑ and post‑processing.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (preferred).
• At least eight years of engineering and CAD/CAE experience on missiles, guided munitions or comparable weapon systems, including five years of physical testing and validation.
• Strong foundation in precision mechanics, GD&T, kinematics, dynamics and conventional control theory.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CATIA, Creo and SolidWorks.
• MATLAB (or similar) for mathematical modelling.
• Hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL), real‑time control and data acquisition (DAQ).
• Experience with structural failure analysis, test design and simulation‑to‑test correlation.
