Principal Engineer - Systems

About the role

EDGE Group is looking for a Principal Engineer – Systems to lead systems engineering across complex defence development programmes and integrated mission systems. You will provide technical leadership throughout the systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture to operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering activities for defence and mission‑system programmes.
• Drive requirements capture, decomposition, allocation and traceability.
• Manage system architecture, interface control, integration, verification and validation.
• Develop and review technical specifications, ICDs, integration plans, test procedures and compliance documentation.
• Conduct system analysis, technical trade‑offs, design reviews and risk assessments.
• Provide technical leadership across software, hardware, networking, cybersecurity and test teams.
• Support C2, C4ISR, tactical communications, secure networking and distributed mission systems.
• Engage with customers, suppliers and programme stakeholders while mentoring engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of systems engineering experience in defence, aerospace, security or mission‑critical environments.
• Proven delivery of complex defence or integrated systems programmes.
• Experience with C2, C4ISR, tactical communications, mission systems or secure communications.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering methodologies, lifecycle processes, integration and verification.
• Experience managing technical interfaces and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Familiarity with MBSE tools and standards such as INCOSE, MIL‑STD, NATO interoperability.
