Principal Subsea Engineer

About the role

The Principal Subsea Engineer interprets business issues, recommends best practices, and solves complex subsea‑related problems. Working with minimal guidance, the role may also lead functional teams or projects and is recognised as a specialist in subsea engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Support subsea and offshore projects by leading design and installation engineering, addressing procurement requirements.
• Provide specialist knowledge of design codes, perform conceptual, FEED and detailed analyses, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate daily subsea engineering activities, manage technical reports, and interface with subcontractors, verification bodies and clients.
• Lead small to medium engineering teams, mentor junior engineers, and oversee discipline execution, schedule and budget.
• Perform installation analysis for rigid pipelines, risers, flexible flowlines, umbilicals and subsea structures using industry‑standard packages.
• Review and approve third‑party reports, vendor submittals, and design verification documents.
• Prepare bid estimates, technical queries, and support procurement of equipment and services.
• Attend project kickoff, progress, vendor and offshore site meetings, and provide technical direction throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• In‑depth expertise in subsea engineering and broad knowledge of the subsea discipline within engineering.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and to lead functional teams or projects.
• Strong communication skills for interfacing with clients, subcontractors, certifying authorities and internal stakeholders.
