Public Health / Wet Services Engineering Lead

About the role

Zutari, a buildings, infrastructure engineering and advisory practice with over 90 years of heritage across Africa and the Middle East, is looking for a technical leader in Public Health / Wet Services Engineering. The role leads the design, coordination and technical delivery of water and drainage systems across all project stages, from potable water and hot/cold water services to drainage, sewerage, stormwater management, rainwater harvesting and recycled water systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, coordination and technical delivery of wet services systems, preparing and approving calculations, hydraulic assessments, drainage designs, drawings and specifications while ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations and client standards.
• Provide technical leadership to project teams and drive continuous improvement in engineering methods, QA processes, digital design delivery and BIM integration.
• Deliver design packages on time and within budget, coordinating with mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, fire, architectural and other disciplines, and managing design reviews, stage-gate submissions and project milestones.
• Manage technical, programme, commercial, approval and interface risks, and support project managers and directors.
• Support construction phase with technical reviews, RFI responses, shop drawing assessments, site inspections and commissioning support.
• Deliver services within approved scope and fee budgets, monitor resource use, assist with scope changes, variations, fee proposals, bid submissions and variation claims.
• Act as the main engineering contact for clients, lead technical discussions and workshops, and build long-term client relationships.
• Mentor engineers, technologists, technicians, graduates and BIM professionals, and contribute to performance management, recruitment, onboarding and succession planning.
• Support business development by contributing technical input to proposals, bids and fee estimates, and help identify new opportunities and market trends.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) with ECSA or an equivalent internationally recognised professional engineering body.
• Recognised technical leader in Public Health / Wet Services Engineering who leads project teams and mentors engineering talent.
