Research Assistant – Voice Studies & Cultural Anthropolinguistics

About the role

NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Assistant to support two interdisciplinary book projects on voice, performance, and linguistic phenomena in the Arab world. The role combines archival research, fieldwork, and administrative coordination, with the possibility to co‑author a scholarly chapter.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct deep archival and secondary literature reviews on Antonin Artaud, glossolalia, sound studies, and Middle Eastern oral traditions.
• Assist in planning, executing, and documenting ethnographic fieldwork, including participant recruitment and audio recording.
• Collaborate on drafting and revising sections of the monograph and edited volume, with opportunity to co‑author a chapter.
• Manage administrative workflows, liaise with co‑editors, publishers, and contributing authors.
• Support the establishment of the new Voice Studies & Epistemological Research Centre in the UAE.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in Arts, Humanities or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Fluency in English and Arabic (classical or relevant dialects).
• Experience or training in qualitative research methods, ethnography, oral‑history interviewing, or field audio recording.
• Strong academic writing skills.
